Established in 2014, Wooptix is the first spin-off of the University of La Laguna (Tenerife, Spain), and has developed proprietary disruptive technology in the area of Lightfield Imaging and Computational Photography.
Wooptix was established in 2014 to capitalize the R&D efforts of a group of scientists and engineers working in Computational Imaging at the Astrophysics Department of the University of La Laguna, Tenerife, for more than twenty years.
The members of this team are experts in Adaptive Optics and the emerging field of Lightfield Imaging, which consists in capturing all the information of a scene (not only the intensity of the light at each point but also the direction of the rays) and process it afterwards.
Wooptix’s patented technology is ahead of the state of the art in this area, as they are capable of capturing the Lightfield using inexpensive conventional image sensors versus alternative competing solutions that rely on more expensive optical equipment.
Besides, due to Wooptix’s unique and proprietary algorithms, they can process the data with the on-the-self computing power currently available in consumer electronics devices, democratizing Lightfield Imaging and its applications for the mass market.
Bullnet Capital led a financing round in Wooptix that was closed in June of 2016 and has continued supporting the project ever since.
